Preset basics
Throughout Grid Pro, you'll notice blocks with a bunch of small-ish dots in them (preset blocks). Usually a preset block will be located near a group of settings that can be saved together as a preset. Each dot represents a single preset; shift-click on a dot to save a preset, click on a dot to restore it.
Presets and preset blocks can seem tricky when you start looking at which areas of the interface they affect. Video FX have preset blocks; saving/restoring from their preset blocks saves/restores the state of all the UI item related to that specific effect (wet/dry, parameter sliders, etc.) as seen in the Colors-HSV picture above.
FX chains also have preset blocks- but the presets for the fx chain store all the effects in the chain, in addition to saving the state of every parameter in every effect in the chain. Similarly, transitions have preset blocks which save/restore the parameters of the individual transition, while the mixer has a preset block which lets you save/restore not only which transition is in use and the other mixer settings, but also the parameters of the selected transition. Think of preset blocks like a hierarchy- some blocks are very specific, affecting only a small part of the video path, and some are more general, affecting groups of smaller items that may or may not be encompassed by other preset blocks.
The preset manager
After you have prepared several sets with Grid Pro, you may find that a single block of a presets is not enough for the transport controls, mixer, and FX buses, or you would like to transfer your presets from one copy of Grid Pro to another. The preset manager is what you use to save the contents of the main preset blocks (left transport, mixer, right transport, bus A/B/mix fx chains) to disk. Keep in mind that the preset manager does NOT store the current settings in a preset before doing so, you must first shift+click in a preset circle as described above and then save the entire preset block. Each main preset block can be saved (type the name in the "save as" field and hit return) or loaded (select the name of the saved block from the pop-up menu) individually.
On the right-hand side of the preset manager, you'll notice a list called "master presets". The master presets list lets you coordinate loading preset-block files to each of the 6 major preset blocks that are controlled in the preset manager. You do not have to save preset blocks for every category to use the master presets; Each of the main preset blocks in the preset manager has a "<current>" option selectable in the pop-up menu which indicates that a master preset should use the preset block already in place (you can have a master preset that will only affect one of the main preset blocks).
When quitting Grid Pro, the current presets are automatically saved as the "default" settings and then restored the next time you open Grid Pro. If you just want everything to be where it was when you left, you don't have to touch anything.
Presets documents are saved to the Presets folder located in the Grid Pro application folder, from which they can be copied, backed-up, or shared with other users.
