GRID Pro comes with a powerful FX system capable of applying multiple filters to your video output completely in real-time. The FX system is arranged such that it is possible to use different sets filters for Bus A, Bus B, and the final mixed output.
The FX panel in the GRID Pro interface contains three FX columns arranged left to right - Bus A, the final mixed output, and Bus B. Each FX column represents a chain of real-time video filters that will be applied to the incoming video stream.

Adding new FX
To add a new FX to an FX-Chain, simply click on the name of the FX in the scrolling FX-Picker. Depending on horizontal position of your click in the FX-picker, the new FX will be added to the A, Mix, or B FX-chain (from left to right). A mouse-over will appear to indicate the target bus when your cursor is near the FX-picker.
Once you have selected the FX and target FX-chain, a new instance of the FX at the end (bottom) of the FX-Chain. By default, new effects are on, and will start processing any incoming video immediately. If you want new FX to load such that they are bypassed (off), you can change this in the GRID Pro Preferences.
Included standard FX
GRID Pro includes a wide variety of standard FX and can be extended with FreeFrame plugins (beginning with 1.0.3b9).
Re-arranging FX
Once loaded, the order of the FX can be changed by clicking on the name of the FX and dragging it over the name of the FX that is already in the position you wish to move it to.
FX-Chain Presets
Using the preset modules at the top of each FX column, you can save your favorite combinations of FX to use later on. Each FX-chain preset module has 12 circles, or slots capable of remembering any number of FX.
To save a new FX-chain preset, hold down on shift and click any circle in the preset module. This will overwrite any existing preset stored in the selected slot.
To load a FX-chain preset, click any filled in circle in the preset module. Any currently loaded FX will be removed before the stored preset is recalled.
Standard FX controls
At the top of each FX are a few controls that are standard throughout all of the standard VIDVOX FX. These controls are listed below:
- On/Off toggle: control the on/off state of the FX (default state can be set in preferences).
- Wet/Dry slider: adjust the amount that the FX is being applied.
- Disclosure Triangle: switches the FX interface between the collapsed view and expanded view. In the collapsed view, only a few parameters, usually the ones mentioned in this section, are visible. When in its expanded view, the FX interface will display all of the controls for that particular FX.
- Remove button - instantly removes the FX from the FX-chain, incrementing any FX that come after it in the chain.
- Presets - click on a circle to retrieve a preset and shift+click on it to store one.
- Parameters - these are the settings specific to the effect; in this case that means the amount of saturation and the position of the color picker in the color wheel on the right.
Adjusting FX parameters
Each FX module has an interface with controls that are specific to the particular FX. Some simpler effects such as a horizontal or vertical flip only have the wet/dry and on/off controls, most FX modules will have at least one or two other parameters that can be accessed when the module is in its expanded view.
In most cases, parameter values are tied to a Gesture Slider in the FX module interface. For example, in the Blur effect, in addition to the standard controls, there is an additional slider for adjusting the level of blur to be applied to the incoming video. To adjust the level of blur, simply click anywhere on the slider. The blurriness slider ranges from 0 (no blur) to 1 (maximum blur). In the Advanced Features section of this manual, you will learn more about how to use the Gesture Slider, like how to assign MIDI and recording gestures.
=Moving FX panels- Each FX panel (A, Mix, and B) can shift up/down and left/right using the FX panel positioning controls. To shift the FX panel up or down, click and hold down on the double arrow button in the FX positioning controls, then drag up or down with the mouse. To minimize an FX panel, click the double arrow button once. Once in it's minimized state, an FX panel can be returned to it's normal state by clicking on the double arrow button again. By holding down on the shift key while clicking on the double arrow button, you can cause an FX panel automatically hide itself after a set amount of time settable in the Grid Pro preferences. FX panels can also slide left and right by clicking and dragging the left/right arrow button.
Movie Tap FX
In addition to standard spatial and temporal FX, GRID Pro features Movie Taps, a special way to pass video from one FX chain to another. Movie Taps can be used to create additional layers of composition and image masking beyond the standard transition modes, as well as feedback loops.
There are three main types of taps:
- Sends are used to create access points at points in an FX chain that you wish to send video to. GRID Pro has several default Sends for commonly used video streams such as Bus A, Bus B, Live Input, FontSynth and main output. By creating your own Sends, you can access video at any point in GRID Pro. Video from Sends can be accessed by using a Receiver.
- Receivers are commonly used to composite multiple video streams into a single stream.
- The third type of taps are sources which can be used expand the file playback and video generation capabilities of GRID Pro.
