General Settings

  1. Fast File Loading - Enabling Fast File Loading will speed up the media loading process at the expense of increased latency when switching between files.
  2. Restore Defaults - Clicking this button will restore all settings in GRID2 to their factory defaults

Resolution/Aspect Ratio

  1. Movie Resolution - This option sets the resolution for pro-cessing video within GRID2. This does not affect the output resolu-tion of your main output. Changing playback resolution will cause all video playback to stop temporarily while GRID2 reallocates memory. Triggering any clip will cause playback to resume.
  2. Aspect Ratio - Using the Aspect Ratio settings you can adjust the aspect ratio of the video output from GRID2. Choose from the two built in options: 4x3 (full screen) or 16x9 (widescreen), or enter your own custom ratio.
  3. Flash Enable (removed in v2.0.3) - To play Flash movies (.swf), you will need to click the Flash Enable button in the preferences pane. Turning Flash on may decrease playback performance of non-flash media.

Displays

In-Line Preview

Settings for the preview window in the GRID2 interface. When set to off, the preview window will not display any video. In low priority mode the preview window will only update when there is free processor time to display video to the preview screen. When set to high priority, the preview window will try to display every frame of video being played.

The In-Line Preview can use one of three hardware accelerated modes, or no acceleration. The best display mode depends on the computer on which GRID2 is being run, so it’s best to try all the options to see what runs best on your system.

Main Output

Settings for the main video output from GRID2 GRID2 can run in full screen mode on screens 1, 2, or 3 (as set in the System Preferences). You can also display video output from GRID2 to a floating window, or dis- able the main output completely. Like the In-Line Preview screen, the Main Output can use one of three hardware acceleration modes. In full screen mode the OpenGL acceleration is best, especially if you are processing video at a lower resolution than you will be outputting.

OpenGL mode also has a special gl sync mode which can greatly reduce ‘tearing’. Select re-establish sync from the Displays menu to enable gl sync when in OpenGL mode.

Orientation

These settings are for displaying video on projectors that are either rear or ceiling mounted - particularly older projectors that do not have built in orientation functionality. The orientation settings only affect the Main Output. Flip-X will flip the output video horizontally and Flip-Y will flip the output video vertically.

MIDI Settings

  1. Note Triggering - Choose a port and channel to listen to for using MIDI notes to trigger movies. By default, note 0 will trigger the first movie in the grid. However, since most MIDI devices do not start at note 0, GRID2 allows you to set an amount to transpose all incoming MIDI notes. You can manually set the transposition amount, or simply hit the ‘detect’ button and then press the lowest note on your keyboard - GRID2 will automatically set the transposition so that the first note triggers the first movie in the grid.
  2. Controllers - You can use MIDI to control four different parameters in GRID2: speed, scrub, fade amount, and volume level. For each of these parameters you can set GRID2 to listen to controllers, velocity, or pitch-bend on a specific channel. For controllers and velocity you can choose between assigning a single controller or note, or listening to all controller or velocity information on a channel.
  3. MIDI Clock Source - Set a port to listen to for MIDI clock messages.

Tips -

To use all the incoming velocity or controller values on a channel, set the note/controller number to 128.

Turntable Settings

This setting lets you set which of the supported turntable systems you have. Currently the EJ MIDI Turntable and Ms. Pinky Vinyl systems are supported. If you do not have a digital turntable, you should set this option to ‘off’. Once you have selected the system that you own, further instructions for setting up or calibrating the turntable may be displayed.

Currently Ms. Pinky is only supported for Mac OS x

Smoothing Sometimes values coming from a turntable system may be slightly erratic, even when playing at a constant speed. This may cause slight fluctuations in playback speed in GRID2. Increasing the smoothing factor will decrease the amount of variation in data coming from the turn-table, improving playback stability when playing at a constant speed. Live or a drum machine.

Audio Settings

  1. Output Settings - When using Pitch Stabilization or Click Reduction (see Playback Settings menu), GRID2 will play audio using the selected driver and destination. Select the desired hardware de- vice (Core Audio Built-in if you do not have any 3rd party hardware) and the destination from the menus.
  2. Input Settings - When using the Ms. Pinky Turntable system, you will need to select the audio driver, input device, and input source that your line level input is connected to. Refer to the Ms. Pinky documentation for more information on how to connect your Ms. Pinky Turntable system to your computer.
